Balloon is poor man’s Space. Launching satellite to do the upper atmospheric study costs in hundreds of thousands of dollars per kg of payload while balloon costs only hundreds of dollars. Also launching balloon does not require any separate ground set up as required by launching of the rockets. Balloon takes the payload to the near space altitude of over 20 km to 40 km but below the accepted altitude of space, 100 km. These altitudes make near space far more like earth orbit than the surface of the earth. Air pressure in near space reaches 99% of a vacuum or better. Air temperatures drop to a low of -60 degrees F or colder. Cosmic radiation is over 100 times greater than at sea level. Near space is located within the ozone layer and therefore is an environment of increased damaging ultraviolet radiation. Near space is reached by helium or hydrogen-filled weather balloons. InSpace Labs provides balloon launching services as well balloons which can be launched as per your convenience.
Emergency Response
At the time of emergency, terrestrial communication channels fail. Tethered or non tethered balloon can act as a temporary communication platform, improving communication range from 5-10 km to 600 km
Space Qualification
Low pressure, extreme temperature, re-entry etc behaviours faced by systems in space can be easily tested using high altitude balloon
Scientific Study and Weather Monitoring
30 km altitude offers near space environment for the deep space study. Also high altitude balloon is the only and the most cost effective platform to do in situ measurement of the atmosphere
Effective surveillance and communication system gives military an edge over enemy and high altitude ballooning is a best low cost, on demand method to do so
